I was watching an episode of Star Trek and Data said that "In a way, everything lives forever because we're made of atoms that always existed, and always will exist." It seems like a neat thought to me, but I don't know enough about chemistry to know if it's entirely true or not...
I'm pretty sure fission is a human thing. I can't see that happening in nature.
I thought radioactive decay was just the loss of electrons, but yeah, it's really neutrons and protons. So, it looks like that's the answer.
