The Democratic National Convention continues Wednesday with a rare event: a speech by a non-candidate that is more eagerly anticipated than the nominee's remarks. That would be the address by former President Clinton, a man who once worked every bit as hard as Republican Mitt Romney to keep Barack Obama out of the White House.
They're BFFs now, or at least committed to the same goal. Look for Clinton to apply his keen political instincts to the challenge of convincing Americans that they're better off today than they would have been without President Obama. And while former presidents tend not to go harshly negative on the campaign trail, it's safe to expect some barbed comments about the prospects of four years with Romney in the Oval Office.
Others on the bill Wednesday include graduate-student-turned-reproductive-health-advocate Sandra Fluke, California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris, Senate candidate and liberal darling Elizabeth Warren, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The convention's chairman, Villaraigosa gets the prime spot at the mic just before Clinton -- while there still may be some battery life left.
