Dna ladder project for science?

Im doing a project in science. We have to build a dna ladder .
We have to make a DNA ladder with (AT&CG) I have a few questions about it

1) Are the sides of the ladder AT and the two in the middle CG?

2) IS there two spaces in between or one? Like this
AT-CG-AT or AT-CG-AT
AT AT AT AT
AT AT AT-CG-AT
AT-CG-AT AT AT
AT AT
etc. etc.
 
no the sides of the ladder are not A's and T's

2. there is never a sequence of four pairs like that, the corect model for a DNA ladder is as follows

lATl
lGCl
lCGl
lTAl
lATl
lGCl
lCGl
lTAl

The lowercase l's represent the sides

A's always match up with T's and G's always match up with C's

otherwise its a mutation
