hey all

so this all started about 2 weeks ago.I got this odd sensation in my ears not like pain, more like a fullness or pressure, this was accompanied with constant ear popping and clicking whenever i yawn or swallow even open my jaw. I didnt think much it but after a few days I got severe headache and diziness. I thought maybe it was an ear infection. I felt almost fluish, but never really got that full on flu feeling.

fastforward 2 weeks I have been to the clinic and ER twice. I have had a regular blood panel done, as well as a sinus xray I have been cleared of sinus problem which I did not suspect in the first place.

something similar happened to me about 3 years ago although this time it feels much more severe. Last time this happened I had a MRI and a CT scan, and both were ok.

My symptoms right now have been, headache just dull and achey, very annoying but not intolerable, extreme dizziniess not vertigo but unsteadiness, nausea, BRAIN FOG, extreme fatigue, intense pressure in head and some in ears, occasional shooting pains in ears, fuzzy feeling in sides of head

all 3 docs looked in my ears and said all was fine

I am going nuts I have missed so much work I cannot drive or leave the house.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? All comments are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I have a lot of your stuff, except the minor headaches, but I have many, many years on you.It is amazing that these
.same symptoms are across the age spectrum of life. Some of these problems are recent.I never had dizziness until a couple of years ago.In the past,I only had anxiety and depression, shock treatments and all.I wonder if we have some thyroid disorder? I wish I had more for you.,At least, know that you are not alone.Bill

I have almost all the same things you list. I had something like this happen 2.5 yrs ago...was put on prednisone and atavert and it was gone in less than a week. This time I tried the same thing....to a lessening of symptoms but then they came back full force. I'm on my 6th week. I've been told it is BPPV and been to PT for ear crystal movement. I've gotten some relief but then things worsen again. This weekend my head felt hot and ready to explode (not really a headache though) when I was at a wedding reception with bright lights and loud music. I've been tested and have no hearing loss. I haven't had an MRI or CAT but am wondering if I should. I can navigate, but feel like I'm on a floating dock or fast moving train all the time. Driving is only done if I have to and I prefer a quiet atmosphere with not to many things or noises going on at a time. So far I've only been to a GP and an ENT. I spoke with a 2nd PT yesterday who told me it sounds like I have an inner ear imbalance. I'm considering a 2nd opinion from a neurotologist who specializes in dizziness since this we my first symptom and the most annoying. The ENT I went to said my ears were clear but they pop all the time and have a white noise in them esp when I lie down. The ENT didn't look up my nose or suggest sinus issues even though I told him this started after a week of really bad allergies and clogged up nose. I still think that might have something to do with it since Nasonex did give me some relief from the dizziness.
I too am starting to go crazy wondering why this isn't going away. If it was BPPV, my PT indicates that the therapy usually works in 2-3 treatments.

anyone have any GOOD news or breakthroughs that they have found?

I'm about ready to start taking an antibiotic (non-prescribed stuff the I p/u in Mexico) and see if there is some sort of low-grade infection that I have. It seems like no one has any definite diagnosis?

Thanks for the response Bill,

its does help to know that I am not the only one. It's beyond frusterating to just simply not know.....

Definitely go see the neuro-otologist. I went to a very good one, and this shined some light on other areas I never considered. It is extremely difficult to Dx these things and sometimes they resolve on their own. If you are not satisfied with your answers, keep trying other docs. You'll find someone who will help you get to the bottom of it. Good luck!

[So.....I could have been the one writing the letter below...... My dizziness is GONE!!! and it took about 2 months....no thanks to my GP or ENT but my PT.

I originally got a diagnosis of BPPV and was sent to a physical therapist. The 1st time I went I got relief but it only lasted a day. Looking back with all the symptoms etc. what I THINK happened was perhaps a virus in the inner ear that took awhile to clear up. It in turn messed up my balance. I "fired" my ENT when he tried to dx me with a neck/vertabrae problem by pushing down on the top of my head! LOL I instead went to a chiropractor, got extremely wonderful relief of my headaches and temporary dizziness relief. They also explained how my inner ears could be miscommunicating. They tugged my ears to open up the eustachion tubes and once again...more relief. I got a referral to therapist...this one labeled as an occupational therapist who specializes in vertigo, dizziness and balance issues. From talking around I had heard great things about her. I went there 2x even though things had diminished greatly and she explained a lot of things to me....more than the drs. could. She thought it might have started as BPPV or a virus, but for some reason my equilibrium was off and I had to "retrain" my inner ear. I have been given various exercises....shaking my head "no" involving visual tracking, and some other simple balance exercises along with the Brandt Daroff ones that are used for BPPV. I can't say I'm 100% but am real close. I've been climbing ladders picking cherries and am back to almost all my other activities. My biggest problem is my lack of activity for the last 2 months has put me at a higher weight and in worse shape than I usually am in. I try to do "normal" but find that I need to ease into things a bit slower since I've been so "lazy" for the last 2 months.

I'd love to hear if any of this is helpful to anyone else. I too tried the meds but all they did was cover up the symptoms. I also believe it is very helpful to build up your resistance and immune system since I think part of my onset was related to allergies, stress, lack of sleep and resistance being lowered.

I'm having some stuff like this too...I go to see a neurotologist at the end of this month to look for inner ear troubles. My dizziness is 24/7, only when I am up and moving around. When I sleep or lay down, it is fine. I would describe my dizziness as a surreal feeling - like a dream or looking through someone else's eyes or prescription glasses. It is so frustrating because I feel it is getting worse! I have been to the ER and had an MRI that came clean except for sinus disease....it is ruining my life!

Allergies is one major cause of some of these symptoms. I spent an entire summer in a fog and dead tired, only to start getting better in the fall. I didn't know I had allergies, and allegra helped me immensely. I could function, think, stay awake etc. None of the over the counter meds worked for my symptoms. The other cause that doctors do not think to check is your upper back, shoulder, and neck muscles. You do not have to have pain in these for this to be the cause. Problems in these can cause a whole host of symptoms, which I went through, the main ones being dizzy spells, a feeling of floating, light headedness, memory problems, trouble thinking of words etc. An ortho, neuro or physical therapist can check certain areas on you, and see if this is the cause. Please atleast check it out as I myself spent months going to docs getting no answers only because they did not think to check this, and it was the cause of all my symptoms. Physical therapy, soft tissue work, where they knead the knots out of the muscles, takes care of these symptoms. It can take a couple of treatments a week for about a month to fix this. Please read my post titled " If you are dizzy and lightheaded, one thing docs miss" in the brain and nervous section of these boards. I hate to see people suffer the way I did, and the docs not finding the cause.

Well, I don't know if there is a chance you have this but I had a viral ear infection a few years ago that left me with vertigo so bad that I would actually have trouble even laying in bed because it would feel like the whole world just tilted up on end and I'd start grabbing the sides of the bed in panic trying not to fall out. Obviously I could not drive, and I had to be very careful not to fall over because my sense of where "up" was was compromised. I had the symptoms for two weeks, seems like. However, I had no pain or popping that I can recall.
