dizziness and off-balance

hiya i am a 22 year old female, i was wondering if anybody could help me. i was at work one day when i suddenly felt very dizzy and light headed, i was sent home from work but ever since that day i have not felt right. I often feel very off balance to the point where i feel like i am going to fall over. After consulting my GP i was referred to the CARDIOLOGIST???? ... which i did not understand why because surely feeling dizzy or off balance comes from the head or the ears. Anyway the cardiologist explained that my GP could hear a slight murmor in my heart and so could he. Tomorrow afternoon i have to be put on a 24 hour heart scan machine. Although i am worried that there maybe something wrong with my heart, i dont think that the dizziness has anything to do with it... and neither does the cardiologist? My other symptoms are: tiredness, headaches, blurred vision and i sometimes find myself in a situation where someone is talking to me but i can not register what they are saying and i can't speak for maybe 10-20 seconds. Please if you have any advice would you leave a reply as i am getting very scared now and i am unable to work or even walk a short distance without losing my balance or feeling like i am in a trance. Thanks for reading

Sounds somewhat like vertigo to me, however, don't totally mark out the fact that it could be something else..plus I'm not a doctor. Maybe starting with a cardiologist is the best step to get to the problem (if it's not heart-related). If you experience any new symptoms, write them down with details and times...they may help the doctor figure out what's wrong, in addition to any medical testing that will be done. Sort of cliche to say, but try not to stress about it. Best Wishes to you.

i think it is actually a good idea to have the cardiologist check you out. if there is something that is causing problems with your blood flow, then that can certainly make one dizzy and cause the other symptoms you mentioned.

think about anything that might be different prior to the sudden development at work. are you on any new medication? has anyone in your family experienced this? have you been in otherwise good health, eating well and such?

i don't blame you for being scared. your symptoms sound very unpleasant and debilitating. i hope the heart scan is helpful in finding out what is wrong, or what is not wrong. your mention of not being able to understand people or respond to them right away sounds very troubling. i'm sorry you're going through this. i hope you have family and friends to help you and give you emotional support.

let us know how you do-
