Disputing a $700 cell phone bill. What are my chances?

I've just recieved a mobile phone bill for $700 AU, and I need your advice, particarly with disputing this bill which is partly due to ignorance and a lack of knowlege about phone internet usage on my behalf, and a lack of information on theirs.

(This is the first bill for my updated contract, coinciding with my newly acquired and 'internet ready' Nokia E72.)

DETAILS:
I've known the phone had a habit of connecting to the internet by itself, but i had absolutely no idea it would be this costly, as i don't actually use the internet. I have no knowledge of data usage, and i figured 'disconnecting' manually whenever i realised it'd connected was sufficient enough. The only time i do intentionally connect is for email, which i rarely use anyway, and always manually disconnect subsequently.

What leverage do i have in approaching this situation, what are my chances of totally eliminating the excess charges (i simply cannot afford it), and any other handy advice will be appreciated. 'You're screwed' is a valid response if it is fitting.

Thankyou.
