I've read that it is better to just install the codecs you need rather than install codec packs. I've used both CCCP and K-Lite and have had varying degrees of success with both, but I want to try this "better" way.
Currently I am trying to play an HD mkv file that has embedded subtitles. I have:
DiVX H.264 Decoder
Haali Media Splitter
Xvid
installed. Everything works perfectly except I can't get the subtitles displayed in Media Player Classic. The tray icon for Haali Media Splitter even comes up and I can pick between subtitles or no subtitles, but either option, no subtitles are shown in Media Player Classic.
I know subtitles are available because they are displayed fine in VLC player. And yes, I know that I can always just use that player for this file. However, I want to make this work in Media Player Classic. Are there any suggestions how I can do this?
