Displaying Birthdays from Contact in Calendar on E50

Hi -

I have birthdays embedded within contacts since I moved all my contacts using Nokia PC-Suite 6.81. The contacts on the phone have the birthday with a little icon - but they don't show on the calendar.

Is it possible to have an entry on the calendar with a birthday so I can be reminded in advance?

Not *exactly*, but using a little elbow grease and SyncML (mobical.net) you can import a huge calendar into your handset. I wanted the SJ Sharks schedule on my phone and set about doing it, now I don't forget when the games are.

I wrote it up here, I'm sure you could adapt it for your CSV file. There's a Win32 binary of awk.exe, so you're not limited to Linux or OSX and could do this on Windows.

There is an app actually which read the birthdates from the contacts and them if you want make calendar entries from them. It's called Best Birthday by SmartphoneWare.

I would say that the easiest thing is to use the import function in Microsoft Outlook, to import the .csv file to the contacts folder. Then use Nokia PC Suite to sync with the contacts in Outlook.

It?s as simple as that ;-)

i have a question about mobical.com ... when you sync your contacts and you have more than a number under one name say 7 phone numbers.. does mobilcal stores all those or just like outlook a few and trash the rest?

thanks

Afraid I don't know, sorry -- I still store all my contacts in SIM format (one number per, in the 'Mobile' slot) even though it's on the phone. Mobical.net does have support for all the other fields, so my guess would be it'll work just fine.

Just try it - it's free, what do you have to lose besides a little time.

thanks rivvah i just tried and as you said it has support for the extra fields.. now i can sleep better with all my contacts in a safe place..

thanks again

here's how I got them in to my E50.

1. created a csv file with "startdate","starttime","person's birthday"
2. imported to google calendar
3. tried goosync. didn't work.
4. exported from google in ical format
5. imported on to mobical
6. created a mobical sync on the phone and pulled via Edge.

Bingo

Now they show as all day events on mobical, but on the E50 they show as an all day appointment (00:00 - 23:59)

Any idea how to have them show as an anniversary/birthday with the little gift-box icon?
