You decide to go for a jog and head out. You run 2.5 km east, 1.7 km south, and then finally 4.9 km at a 40 degrees east of north. What is your displacement?
I've done the following for the problem:
D=A+B+C
Dx = Ax+ Bx+Cx
Dy=Ay+By+Cy
I assigned
A=2.5km E
B=1.7km S
C=4.9km 40 deg E of N
To calculate Dx: 4.9*cos 40 - 2.5
To calculate Dy: 4.9*sin 40 - 1.7
D=sq rt (dx)^2+(dy)^2 = sq rt (1.25)^2 + (1.45)^2 = 1.9km
This is not correct. Can someone please explain to me how to properly solve the equation step by step as well as point out what I've done wrong?
