Dislocated jaw

Last Mon, I dislocated my jaw and was able to pop it back into place myself. I'm not going to tell the story about how I did it, because it is incredibly stupid. Anyway, I went to the dr. to make sure everything was okay. She felt it, did x-rays, etc. and told me that I was going to be fine and that I fixed the problem myself. I just want to know how long it is going to heal now, because it is Saturday now, and it still hurts. Have any of you done something like this?

can't say that i have. but the one thing that really has to be very carefully done, and for many reasons, is when any bone becomes misalligned/fractured for any reason, is having a doc do it. i am sure you have figured this out by now. the thing is, there is nerves as well as a solid blood supply, the vessles themselves? that usually tend to run along bone, thats kind of where god placed it in oder to keep the bigger vessels more protected? the orthos know just where the blood supply runs and the nerves as well so when "they" realin any bonemthay are very much aware of just how and what they are doing,ya know what i mean?

i would imagine, just based upon the fact that 'something' caused enough force to actually pop that jaw out of its normal posistion in the first place, then you popping it back, would casue trauma/inflammation to the surrounding areas. it would just come with the territory based upon how our bodies react to any level of 'injury'. just what did the doc tell you to do at this point? taking any NSAID like aleeve(lasts a bit longer) or advil or any type of anti inflammatory would help most with the type of pain you are probably dealing with right now. just exactly what does your pain feel like and where do you have it?

i would think that if you are not feeling ny improvement at all within the next week or so,it may not hurt to obtain an MRI of that area. x rays would only show the boney structures and not the vascular or nerve or even sofdt tissue either. you should be feeling like at least some ongoing inmprovements with the pain little by little. if this is not how it is going, and considering what you just did, well getting that MRI may be just needed to check much deeper into that whole area for possible problems that like i said, would NOT actually show up on plain x ray. icing may also help some, then alternating with some heat off and on during the day? just something that does tend to help with this type of pain sometimes.

i do wish you luck with this and hope everything heals for you on course. it just may take awhile to get there. if no improvement, just see your doc again for MRI. please let me know how you are doing,K? FB

Thanks. I am actually feeling better today. As I said before, the dr. said that I did fix the problem myself and that it was a good thing to do (I wasn't able to close my mouth before I did it, which was very uncomfortable and painful). She said that women dislocate joints more often then men, because their joints are naturally more flexible, and that women that play sports get used to having to pop their knees or shoulders back into place.

I was just wondering how long it would take to heal, but since I am starting to feel better now, I guess I figured that out. I think it will probably take about another week to get all of the way better. Also, my dr. did give me pain and anti-inflammatory pills, which have helped.
