I am reading gone with the wind, and I am really enjoying it so far. I keep thinking back to the first line "Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it." It surprised me to be honest, I think because I have seen the movie first, and Vivien Leigh is drop dead gorgeous. I wonder if I am reading into it too much, but I am curious as to why exactly that is the opening line, if it has as much importance as I am placing on it or not. Just curious what you think, that it is just a way to open the book, that she is just describing the incredible charm Scarlet has over men? Do you think it is something more she is try to convey or get across?
