I have an appt coming up next week with my OB/GYN and we are suppose to talk about Metformin. I had miscarriage back in January and she seems to think that I have PCOS.
I was just wondering what type of experiences some of you might have had while you taking it and what should I be most concerned about while taking it? How long did it take you to get prego?
Are there any good questions that I should ask? I'm just looking to see what everybody has to say about the medication.
Thanks to all for you comments and suggestions.
baby dust to you!!!!!!

Im sorry to hear about pcos and mischarriage... seems to happen to people who really want and would Truly care for a baby. I have been on metformin for two weeks and its been bumpy start. Some good points about metformin that I have experienced is.... I got AF within 4 days ( was my first period of 2009 year). I didn't ovulate this month but my gyno said getting AF is GREAT start. Now some of bad experiences.... Metformin has decreased my appetite DRASTICALLY... I seem to eat less than half of what i used too ( I have lost 5 pounds in two weeks which is great bc i was 40 lbs overweight) also I have had abdominal pain and Diarrhea so stay close to bathroom, exspecially in the beginging. working as EMT I have to be able to control those "urges" and I have by taking pill with Imodium AD ( ask they said it was okay), taking pill after eating a meal and watching my carbohydrates fats sugars and Leafy vegetables. I noticed fruit has avoided those GI problems. Its a rough start but I am willing to endure anything to get my bundle of joy.
Also most doctors start you out at 500 mg one time a day to help your body with the transition. You take that for one week, second week i took 1000 mg ( one pill in evening and one at night), third week i will take 1500 ( one pill in morning and two at night) and fourth week i will take 200 ( two in morning and two at night). every dr is different this is just method my doctor chose.
My gyno also stated that within the 3 months no ovulation occured or I have not been able to concieve that she will try a mixture of 2000 mg of metformin and chlomid. I have been testing with urine analysis home test because I cant do BBT anymore due to working nights of ambulance. I am very excited and hoping for the best.
I heard that taking metformin while being pregnant for PCOSers decreases the chance of having a miscarriage. I dont know much about your story but have you had any signs and symptoms of PCOS like irregular AF or non existing? sometimes metformin can be very harmful for someone who doesnt PCOS and it is taken. my gyno told me this and made me do many blood test work ups, track BBT, get husband sperm checked.... didnt just say i have pcos bc I was TTC for 1.5 and had very irregular periods... Its due to actions of metformin causing you to become hypoglycemic ( low blood sugar ) which is serious medical condition.
Sorry for such a long reply if you have ANY questions you can contact me and good luck on your TTC journey and prayers and baby dust your way!
