Honor, Courage, and Commitment are the values I have lived by for the past eighteen years. Being born a United States citizen, I have always felt a sense of commitment to serve my country. However, a sense of patriotism alone is not what draws me to the naval service. It is moreover, my deep respect and admiration for the honored traditions of our Navy and its way of life that have forged my desire to be a Naval Officer.
Men and women like Captain Winifred Love, of Newport, Rhode Island, who was among the first group of Navy women officers selected to the permanent rank of Captain and John McCain, the U.S. Senator from the state of Arizona, are my role models.
Being a United States Naval Officer has always been the career path I have pursued. As a Naval Officer, I will be one-hundred percent motivated and committed. As a Naval Officer, I will stand ready to instill leadership and motivational values in the men and women I will serve with. Ultimately, this is where I will be, serving and ensuring my fellow Sailors they have a leader who will listen and support them when needed. I am a responsible person who knows what she wants in life and knows how to achieve it. I am an organized person and believe everything in my life should be in order.
As the Commanding Officer of my NJROTC Unit, I have to lead by example and not be the example. I am exceptionally committed to my cadets and my position as the Commanding Officer. I have instilled the Navy Core Values in all my cadets and they have committed themselves to them. I believe Honor is one's word given as a guarantee of performance. Courage is firmness of mind and the will to face tasks without any hesitation no matter what. Finally, Commitment means to be responsible and dedicated to everything we do. These are not only the Navy’s Core Values but mine as well. Honor, Courage, and Commitment the values I will live and die for. I will do everything in my power to apply them in everything I do. They will always guide me in my leadership role and way of life.
