computers for mate selection.? Discuss two social changes that have lead to the increase in the use of computers for mate selection.

Computers open the door to pick and choose makes based on visual and written content. What this lacks is good old fashion romance. Opposites attract when personality traits are observed and appreciated, something a computer cannot offer. Knights in shining armor cannot display their compassion in action and must boast accomplishments, which runs the risk of sounding pompous. Flaws are emphasized because a computer definition lacks all the qualities that make someone special.
Computers can determine likenesses, but if a person does not like him or herself, they will not like others who share the same traits.
Computers have replaced going out to events to meet someone. There is a false sense of hope that magic will appear on ones screen.
My point, more people are lonely and pickier than ever. Many people are less willing to overlook flaws and will serial date and reject one mate after another without getting to know any of them.

1) Globalization - the internet has given us the opportunity to meet and interact with people from all over the world. So, our choice of partners is no longer limited to the local singles with whom we can interact face-to-face. The internet is a cheap, efficient way to branch out and find someone who is a perfect fit for you.

2) Individualization - people are defining themselves more based on their own interests and not the interests of their community. This effects partnerships because we are now looking for someone that specifically fulfills our needs and matches our personality, rather than someone who can help us contribute to society more. It is much more difficult to find someone that is an exact match to an individual than it is to find someone that could simply help in the fields, for example. So again, the internet gives us a much broader pool of people to choose from.

I agree that anonymity is a great reason to use the internet for dating, too. But that doesn't have much to do with social changes.

Doing a term paper? 1) people have less leisure time
2) less personal risk through anonymity

If I was starting over now I would do background check ... and choose to get know person with more my interest and family simlarities. But most time humans go for physical attration and find out other stuff too late.
