I've thought about the catholic church in medieval times and the religion police in saudi arabia, but are there any more general ways that are also factual though? thanks :) x

It is not. True churches present the Scriptures to its members who have been commissioned to help people. Churches who preach politics are missing the point altogether.

Religion has become a political pawn in that some people seem to want to eradicate it from our lives but religion itself is not political in this country. Our freedom of religion is protected by the Constitution but the constitution is being used to silence religion in public places using the phrase separation of church and state. That isn't even in the constitution. It means the government can not declare any specific religion to be instilled by the government.
