i am supposed to write a two page paper on this and i have only one, i've ran out of ideas.. this is what i have so far..
In The Cask of Amontillado the ability to think rationally wasn’t something that Montresor possessed. His emotions got the better of him and he ended up doing something that he could never take back, although he didn’t even want to. Montresor never even gave Fortunato a fair warning or complained that his insults had bothered him to no end. Throughout the story emotions overpowered rationality within both characters.
By never telling Fortunato how much his insults and slights hurt him, Fortunato was never given a chance at redemption. By allowing these feelings to fester Montresor also hurts himself. Because of his obsession with revenge he has no chance at normal life. Montresor’s feelings of hate towards Fortunato had blown the “insults” out of proportion and has cause him to act irrationally.
Fortunato’s greed and alcoholisim have dulled his rational sense so that he thinks its okay to go with his “friend” further and further into the depths family crypt just to have a drink. The clear signs are there, but because of the intoxication of Fortunato and his overgrown sense of himself, his senses are so impared that he doesn’t sense the danger he is about to face.
As Montresor chained and bricked his friend in the recesses of the crypt, he almost enjoyed hearing his friend’s screams and cries. A person who is thinking rationally would realize that this punishment did not fit the crime.
what other points or things can i add to make this longer?!
