The western militaries consistantly dominated other cultures. The reasons for this are disputed. Whether you believe Diamond's (Guns, Germs, and Steel) ideas of geography playing the major role, or Hanson's (Carnage & Culture) ideas of culture being the driving force. Everywhere western civilization went, western armies dominated battlefields. Yes, the west might have been defeated in the occasional battle (Dien Bin Phu, Little Bighorn, Isandlwana) these battles either had little long term effect, where fight western weapons or the western troops were vastly outnumbered.
