I don't know if you are English or not, but in the English legal system the attitude is that mental illness is a very serious thing. It will commute a sentence from murder to manslaughter for instance, where a defendant successfully pleads diminished responsibility. However, the defendant must show he had an abnormality of mind, or substantial impairment or recognised illness or disease. This may mean that you are incarcerated in a mental institution as opposed to a prison and is not something one does lightly.
