Machiavellli asserts that the security of the is so vital that it justifies certain actions from the ruler(s) which would not be persmissible for individuals not responsible for the states security.
discuss "Machiavellianism" on the basis of this statement.
 
The entire premise of "the Prince", and the principal reason that Machiavelli has been criticized over the years, is that he teaches that the ends justify the means. Once you accept that, then any action is permissible in order to secure the state.

By extension, the ruler places himself above the rest of society, making crimes out of those actions that the ruler could take to secure the state.
