Discuss Capote's role as a journalism in "In Cold Blood"?

For my summer reading, we had to read "In Cold Blood" and the topic was to consider the nature of objective/subjective journalism.

"First establish what you believe to be the specific role of journalist(to relate impartial facts, to tell the most gripping account possible, to persuade the audience, etc.) Then compose an essay in which you discuss how successfully Capote fill that role."

I don't know where to start and no clue what the topic is asking for. It's so vague! ):
