For me at 52, I never thought I would be getting allergy injections. My issues started last year, and did not start the injections till about 5 weeks ago. I can see that the shots have started to help.

Is there any websites that attempt to explain the grass allergies and how to determine if you have a type of grass that is causing problems? My husband says we have kentucky 31 grass, but when I was tested last year, I notice there was only Timothy, Bermuda and Johnson grasses listed on the allergy sheet. I showed allergy toward Timothy and Johnson.

My question: Is there a possibility that a kentucky 31 fescue or seed be lurking the timothy and johnson grass as well? I noticed some of my problems increasing since my husband cut the grass yesterday. My doctor did not test me for kentucky 31.

Have any of you requested to be tested for a certain allergen? are doctors prepared to be able to do this for a patient? this is all so new to me...but my sister did have amazing results with her injections 34 years ago....she has never had to repeat the shots....and has no major sinus or asthma symptoms again...so I have a good feeling about the therapy...just don't know what the right questions to ask...

You could ask your doctor. Some plants are related and therefore shots for one will help control the other. I'm not that well-versed on grasses. But fresh cut grass of any kind will bother someone with allergies as it stirs up dust and other particles.

Oh, and BTW, Timothy and Johnson grass are actually weeRAB, not a lawn grass like Bermuda or fescue. My doctor's office had a big chart on the wall of the shot room that showed pictures of all the main culprits...you could compare what's growing in your yard to what's on that if yours has one...maybe you could find one at the library or online.

I had no idea about those grasses/weeRAB....I have a lot of questions about the testing that was done last year...I also have finally discovered the leaf of a tree in the back of my house as a yellow poplar, which was not on the list of things they tested me for...my tree allergies included gum, river birch, sycamore and cottonwood, but none of the pine family trees.....I guess one question I have is if the poplar is in the family of one of the trees that they are giving me serum for, would it cover that also? and does anyone know how you find out if certain trees are in the same family?

for instance could yellow poplar be related to gum, cottonwood, river birch or sycamore? this is so confusing to me

A science book on plants and trees would give you that information - the genus, etc of plants. THere are also lists that show allergies to a particular plant may manifest itself in a food. For example, people who are allergic to birch sometimes have problems eating hazelnuts. If oyu are allergic to ragweed, don't take echinacea as it is related to ragweed.

It all makes sense to me why things have flared up so much for me. since I have been in this house little over two years, I have planted a butterfly garden with the bushes and some flowers that attract bees and birRAB..one of the plants I chose was the coneflower, which is echinachea......I think I read last year that it was also in the ragweed family, which I showed allergy to....I guess my next thing to do is determine if this flower is a allergy threat all spring and summer, or part of the summer....I had heard the butterfly bush was a weed, but I planted it any way, and then found out about the allergies.....I don't know how I will break all this to my husband who has worked so hard on the yard.....
