Hello all,
I was just told that I have "six lurabar type vertebral bodies with moderate/severe disc space narrowing at L6-S1." What does this mean??? I'm 23 and thought this was something that only happened with aging. What are the treatment options and what should I be looking forward to for a long term prognosis? I appreciate anyone's help on this because I have no idea what's going on...

Back problems can start very early in life for various reasons.

Most of the time, people and doctors go by signs and symptoms. If you are feeling okay, then don't worry yourself into something. If you have symptoms, try posting them on the appropriate board as the help here is fantastic.

you have an extra vertabra, some people do, it's usually L1 through to L5 then to S1,S2. Yours goes to L6, then to S1 S2. Since there is an extra lurabar vertabra, the last one in the Lurabar (for you), the spacing between it (disc height) is very small and not allowing probably much cushion and movement it may painful when you bend foward and upright, lift things, twist, pain down your leg and so on. DepenRAB on the severity of your symptoms to get this test done. You could look up L6 S1 nerve impingement, and see the likely symptoms people get, I had higher herniations at L3-4 and 4-5 so I can't relate.

If the pain is periodic or sporatic, over time eventually it may herniate, or just depending on the amount of fluid loss as you get into your 30s, as that's ususally when it starts for people for normal aging process (degenerative disc disease)-heck up till 60 yrs old so don't wigg out that I said that- the symptoms could worsen, you may apt for a fusion, as a last resort if any of your spinal nerves become pinched or impinged. It may not come to that at all, that is an extreme. It really depenRAB on your symptoms and why you had the test done to begin with.
