This all started in October (4 months ago)..

One day I was on my way home from work, and all of a sudden I was in extreme pain. I went to the ER.. and the doctor said that I may have pulled a muscle in my back. 2 months later, the pain was still there.. I decided to see an orthepedic specialist, and had an MRI. It turns out that I have a disc bulge in L5-S1 region. He prescribed me a facet injection, but I decided that I want this to heal on its own, and begin having physical therapy. About 2 week after pysical therapy, I begin having stabbing pains in my right leg. The pain was becoming worse and worse so I began seeing an acupuncturist. The acupuncturist helped block the pain, but I'm afraid that my back will not heal the right way. I am still seeing the physical therapist, but wonder if I should seek treatment from a chiropractor.

Has anyone here tried chiropractor treatment for a disc bulge/ nerve pain?

I think you'll find that most people on the board will caution you against seeing a chiropractor for any serious spinal issue.

I simply dont recommend Chiros for disc problems, especially if they involve nerve issues.

A good PT can also perform manipulation (if needed).

It's not an issue of healing right or wrong, and/or by doing something that would cause it to heal wrong. That just isnt applicable when it comes to a disc healing.

Now you can do things that would prevent your disc from healing, by improper lifting, lifting heavy things, twisting the wrong way, etc. So you do need to learn proper techniques to lessen your chance of further injuring the disc, but again.. it's possible not matter what you do, it may not be able to heal on its own. Most can without any surgery and/or little to no medical intervention.

Hope this helps some.

My vote is also "NO" for the chiro. If you are having nerve pain then it means that there is nerve compression somewhere. You don't want the area manipulated and cause further damage to the nerve.

CAUTION - the more the pain migrates to your feet, the more nerve damage you are encurring.

My pain actually started in my buttock and I was literally shocked when I was told I had a herniated disc, because my back never hurt. I had been going to my beloved, personal friend chiro who would adjust me and I would feel better for ONE day. She never told me EVER that she thought it might be more serious, so I thought I was having piriformis muscle problems or something.

By the time I got officially diagnosed, 3 months had passed (hardly any time, really) and I have permanent nerve damage and nurabness now. My signature shows how many surgeries it took to fix, and my experience with physical therapy was that I was injured further by them pushing me too hard. I do not feel 30+% of my feet, to the outside. I have to balance to the inside of my feet, I don't feel the outside of my legs when I shave. It is really weird and permanent. I am now having intermittent shooting pain like fire out the soles of my feet from my buttocks from this nerve damage. It is NO fun, and I had no idea that delaying medical treatment for as little as 3 months could have caused this much trouble.

Do I recommend going to a chiro based on my experience? NO.

I understand wanting to avoid surgery and procedures to let the back heal, but you must stay on top of this unless you want permanent nerve damage as well.

For instance, for now you need to stop bending if you want that disc to suck back into place. This means pulling a chair up to sit while you brush your teeth, no bending for anything. You can check with a professional for more ideas on things to do to ideally give your discs time to behave, if they can.

all i can say is no way in he%%. i saw a chiropracter and he made me 10 times worse than i was.

Wow! did you get an MRI 3 months after your pain in your buttocks began? is that how they found the herniated disc? When did the nurabness in your toes began?
