I have direct tv which is totally too much money for what I am getting. I have been with them for 7 years plus and no upgrade to dvr etc avail. so my delima... is I know nothing about on demand, tivo, dvr etc. I would like to move into the 21st century.

what would be the best choice as far as installation, price, quality. I can get the dvr from direct tv at a cost about 100.00 for each room i would assume?? what about the dvr can they be bought at walmart or best buy and what would the price range be.. do i need one for each room. are there any other options?? is tivo and on demand and dvr is it ALL the same thing just by different companies.. what exuipment do i need... i rather buy it from a store rather than fork money over to direct tv for poor service and high prices.

I am tired of paying for movie channels that I do not watch, i much rather have somthing that i can choose from when and if i need it and watch tv shows that i miss during the day and what not.

Is net flix an option also ?? I am so lost with all this... I am 44 and when I grew up cable was a new thing.. i guess i never updated my self on the new stuff.. my kids are wanting this on demand stuff can you please tell me in simple terms how it works, the most economical way to get this... I am willing to cancle direct tv for all but basic channels to save money...

any experiences with this.. sorry if this is a no brainer question but i am unfamiliar with all this stuff.
thanks in advance.
