Dinner tonight

Today is Lin's and my fourth anniversary. The fourth anniversary is the
"fruit" anniversary, so our dinner had a "fruit" theme:

Tomatoes, eggplant, and bell peppers are all fruits, so I made caponata. The
caponata was served with croutons made from artisanal sesame bread.

The French term for potatoes is "pommes de terre", which literally means
"apples of the earth." I made a French potato salad which was dressed with
an herbed vinaigrette and shallots rather than mayonnaise.

"Fruits de mer" (fruits of the sea) -- a whole lobster, a Dungeness crab, a
couple squid tubes and tentacles, a bunch of green-lipped mussels, and half
a dozen spot prawns were all cooked separately and served cold with melted
butter and cocktail sauce. I also lightly floured and cooked a fillet of
Pacific cod in butter; that was served hot.

We had a bottle of Veuve Clicquot to drink.

Lin's making strawberry shortcake for dessert as I type this.

(The dinner wasn't my ONLY gift to Lin: Since this was the "fruit"
anniversary I also got her an apple. Specifically, I got her an Apple
MacBook Pro.)
