I'm building a large dining room table (12' long) for my house and now I'm working on the legs and structure under the table top. The boards for the table are an inch thick. I've got boards running at 90 degrees to help hold it together and they're an inch thick as well. Due to the length, I was going to run two 10' 2x4s the length of the table -- like mini girders.
Here's the issue: Everyone says that a table should be 28" to 30" high. Is that from the floor to the tabletop? To the bottom of the tabletop? To the bottom of the supports? The way I was supporting the table, there will be 5.5" between the bottom of the supporting 2x4s and the surface of the table.
How long do I make the legs?
Thanks.
