digitizer

Hi everyone, I have a T3, and the digitizer is off just enough to be annoying. When I am checking off my long daily to do list, often the wrong item gets checked off so I have to go through very slowly to make sure I highlight the right item. I notice it in other areas as well, like when I want to select a phone number or menu item etc, even if I tap in the center of my selection, it will often select the one above or below the one I want. I've tried recalibrating it, and it takes several tries just to get out of the digitizer calibration because no matter how careful I am with hitting the center of the circle, the process keeps starting over again for about 4 or 5 tries. Any idea if a hard reset will help with this or is my digitizer going? Thanks for any feedback.

There have been a number of reports of digitizer drift in the T3. A hard reset seems to help but the drift soon returns. About the only answer is to return the T3 to Palm for service, hopefully still under warranty.

I can't remember the last time my digitizer was off - but every now and again I set it with this. It is VERY precise, makes you "keep doing it" until it's right, (usually 3 "hits" is enough, however) and the settings seem to "stick."

I don't like the "auto-digitizer apps;" I find this one works the best and it's a straightforward "crosshairs."

Hope it helps.

Thanks Paul, I'm gonna try it too- my digitisers been driving me mad for ages and none of the fixes seem to work. It's not too bad, but enough to be annoying, as with Overlook.
*Scuttles off to fetch T3*

Having tried it, the result is quite interesting.
Basically, as with the built in digitiser, it won't accept my stylus taps. I tap exactly in the right place, and it just keeps going back to the start, as if I tapped miles out. I have to tap in the wrong place (below where the lines cross) in order to just finish the digitising.
If only I could somehow FORCE it to accept that I AM tapping in the right place, then I'm sure it'd all work great.

This sounds interesting. I had the same problem with my old T2. If I used the keyboard in the display I had to tap a letter to the left of the letter that I wanted to use and it was only on part of the keys. Some of the keys (the ones on the left) I needed to select directly. It seemed as thought the right side of the screen was off some. Has anyone seen this problem before?

Looks like digi didn't solve the issue. My T3 is still under warranty, so I may see if I can get it fixed or replaced. Thanks for all the feedback.

This has been a problem for a long time with Palm going all the way back to the Palm V/Vx "mad digitizer syndrome". I had exactly the same problems with my IIIc (sorry, iiicRules:) ) and it's one of the reasons why I sold it and got a Handspring Prism. The digitizer was rock solid. My daughter-in-law inherited the Prism when I got a Clie T665 and both digitizers are still working fine.

I have no idea why Palm can't get this digitizer problem cleared up once and for all but it shows up regularly with each new model. The T series seems to be particularly prone to the digitizer problem while the Zire line seems to have been relatively free of the problem so there must be some difference between vendors that Palm is using for digitizers. Certainly, if you have a T3 that's still under warranty, I would return it for exchange forthwith since it may take several exchanges to get one that's right.

Hehehe. I have to be honest, my IIIc did exactly the same thing too (except to a much worse extent). It's pretty much unusable now and it's all due to the digitiser. I've taken it apart many times, cleaned the connections and such, but no luck.:(
The reason I've held off exchanging the Palm for so long, is that it would most likely be replaced by a refurbished T3, not a new one, so it's a hard decision. I may pluck up the courage before my warranty expires.
I agree with you entirely- PalmOne need to get this problem sorted. They're losing money, through replacements, as well as future customers.

I'm on my second T3, soon to be my third, for exactly the same problem. I returned the first one to CompUSA, and I'm in the middle of filling out the TAP replacement info on their site now. Hopefully the third time's a charm. . .

I had the same problem with my T3 after six months. Did everything I could to fix it with no success. Had no choice but to have it replaced. Palm calls the problem "linearity"

The replacement unit came, but the screen was not as bright as my first unit, plus its a little bluish, so I returned it and got another replacement.

It's working properly now. Just in time because I got a new application - Pocket Minesweeper (just like the one in Windows), and I could imagine how it was going to work if I still had the linearity problem. The mines will explode in my face for tapping all the wrong squares!
