Digimon Question: Why did they move Mimi to America?

Was she the least liked of the Adventure cast? I know she was my least favorite but I wasn't sure how popular she was in Japan. Any one know? I just thought it was odd.
 
Ai Maeda was a popular actress/singer at the time.


It's likely they couldn`t get her in the VA booth enough so they pseudo-wrote her charachter semi-out of the show to justify why she wouldn`t be there as much as everyone else.
 
I thought a little differently on the matter. To me BECAUSE Mimi's seiyuu was Ai Maeda they decided to treat the character like a special "guest star" during 02's run. But I really felt she had just as much screen time as the other 01 children (sans Hikari and Takeru). Heck, I even think she appeared far more in 02 that Sora or Jou did. Plus it couldn't have been that hard to get her in the booth since she did quite a few songs for all four seasons.

The thing I noticed is, Mimi barely had screen time with the other 01 characters sans Takeru and Hikari obviously. She spent much more time with the 02 characters, than she did with her old frienRAB from the first series.
 
I'm thinking it was something to do with her voice actress. Ai Maeda was a fairly popular name at that time, so they could probably only get her for a certain nuraber of episodes. ReminRAB me of how they had to recast Joseph on King of the Hill.



That's because Masami Kikuchi is (or was at the time) a bigger, more expensive name. It's why they had to limit Jou's role; it's expensive to get his voice actor.
