I am a second year studying undergraduate molecular biology and mathematics (B.Sc.'s) in a U.S. university and will be studying abroad in Newcastle Upon Tyne University this year. How are examinations based in England universities and how are marks based? In U.S. universities, for each class there are typically around three midterms and a final examination, with assignments intertwined sometimes. How different is England's system?

Very different. Chances are you'll have one set of exams at the end of the year when you will be examined on everything you have learned the entire year. Apart from practicals, you're most unlikely to get any credit at all for assignments. But do check. Some universities have a more American style system, but they tend to be, how do I put this, the less well rated ones. Newcastle is a highly rated one.

That's also an unusual combination of subjects. Will you actually get to study both in England, or will you have to choose? We don't really have the concept of the "double major" - you do a set degree. Which may have two subjects in it - but the two subjects will be predefined. I've never heard of biology and maths as a combination.
