Diet Soda

Kverhoef, you will hear MANY opinions on this, but it is ultimately your decision to make. MANY, MANY things out there have had negatives show up in studies or a risk of cancer and it's impossible to eliminate them all. Just have your diet soda in moderation and be sure to continue with your healthy habits and drink plenty of water too. There are plenty worse things out there with a higher risk of cancer, such as smoking. Some people will say to NEVER drink a diet soda, but it isn't realistic. Plus, many of these people eat other unhealthy things so they are not perfect either.

I treat myself to the occasional diet soda and most days limit myself to just one. I can safely say I am 100% sure diet soda does NOT cause weight gain for EVERY person. It does have some studies showing that people may crave more sweets and thus eat more, gaining weight. I hardly ever crave sweets and especially DON'T want anything sweet while drinking a diet soda, so I can say this doesn't happen to me at all. Just watch out for it... it happens to some people! I will never give up all artificial sweeteners. I hate any gum with real sugar in it and will only chew sugar free. The risk of cavities is something much more likely to occur. Many studies done have huge amounts of artificial sweeteners, so if you limit yourself, you won't be consuming this much.

I know there are some studies out there showing that diet soda (and regular I guess) can disolve a nail and all of these things, but so can juice!!! Pretty silly study if you ask me. Many drinkable/eatable items are acidic and our stomach linings can handle this since stomach acid is much more acidic.
