Diet and Fitness, what is more important? Exercise, your diet, or both?

Before I would eat whatever as long as it was under X amount of calories. Now I'm eating perfectly healthy and drinking only water and lots of it. When I lost weight the first time my body pretty much looked the same to me, like no definition just a thinner version with the same look as before. Now that I'm eating very healthy and drinking lots of water with exercise, I can already see muscle definition in my body and physically can see myself get thinner, which I've never been able to before. I know it's mostly water, but Since Sunday i've lost 9.2 pounds. What are your opinions?

20 years old, 6 feet, 223.6 pounds. Goal weight - 190
