well not exactly. you are assuming that iraq is the same as mesopotamia which it is not. the people in modern iraq are arab people speaking semitic tongues. the ancient mesopotamians such as the sumerians were not arab nor did they speak a semitic language. the elamites in iran were nearly contemporary with the sumerians though they did not speak persian, however the later persians adopted a neo-elamite language for their use.
