In most areas across The united states and Canada on public property, it is usually totally legal to video record police.
The one thing Filmer's have to be concerned about is audio. In some areas in the united states and Canada, there are wiretapping laws, in which a person will need permission to record audio. People have been arrested for recording audio because their cameras record audio. Be-careful if your from Britain, it is illegal to take still photos of cops due to Terrorism laws.
Generally, in most places public property is not private, that's why tourists record video.
This is good news to alot of people who are unaware of this. Police that don't like to be recorded will take advantage of this fact, and tell Filmer's it's illegal, when in fact there's nothing more legal than recording video in public.
There was a video (which I cannot find anymore) in which a group of 9/11 truthers were walking down a street video recording. They just happend to catch on tape, police arresting a women. One officer at the scene approached the cameramen, and tried to tell them it was illegal for them to be recording. The 9/11 truthers were smart enough to know that was false, And told him that they have every legal right to video record in public. The cop actually stopped them illegally, as there was no legitimate reason to do so. I wish I had the link to the video but I don't.
In a couple of weeks I will be upgrading my box of toys and will be getting a brand new video camera. I hope to record for the purpose of sharing my wonderful city to people on youtube. My city is a Beautiful city with lots of attractions tourists may like. I plan to put these videos on youtube, as I'm a proud resident of my 'good' city.
