The Census Bureau came in $1.6B under budget. Isn't that great? And it was reported in every news media I've read.
But not all of them reported all the facts. The 2010 census had a $14.7B budget. That's over twice what the 2000 census budget was. Now correct me if I'm wrong. But there aren't twice as many people living in the US in 2010 as there were in 2000. Inflation hasn't driven the cost of doing a census to double since 2000. The wages per census worker didn't double. And reports state that more people filled out they census form and mailed it back WITHOUT ever having seen a census worker. So why wasn't the census done a lot more under budget than 11%?
And what is with all those questions? I can understand wanting the ages and maybe sex of all persons living in a residence. But why does the government need to know the ethnic background, income, own or rent, and all the rest of that stuff?
Did you notice if you don't answer correctly or fill out a census form you can be charged with a crime and prosecuted?
