Did the Olympics have anything to do with the US directly?

Ok doing a USH project/movie on something that "influenced" the Us today, and i was thinking olympics, but did they have any thing to really to do with the US? LIke example it would work for ISrael (Munich Games) but anything for the US?

And if there isnt anything, is there any other topics you guys have? it could be anything
