Could the Tree of Life have symbolized a more sustainable way to live harmoniously on earth? Could the Tree of Knowledge have symbolized mankind trying to be like 'God' by making the assumption that we 'know' enough to have responsible dominion?
Would the events of exponential population growth, development of centralized societies, specialization of trade, division of labor, and excess resource consumption, and the first occurrences of centralized warfare, be associated with this assumption of knowledge? Does that assumption of knowledge, along with it being proselytized, exemplify why organized religions have had so many negative effects on humanity? Was this the point in prehistory where non-proselytizing nature religions were diminished by the proselytizing and more organized ones?
