publicly oppose gay marriage? Most elected officials in the Democratic party...............
judging by their votes and their actions,
have appeared to demonstrate that they think gay marriage should be legal.
When Bush tried to ban gay marriage in the U.S. constitution,
the Dems voted against it, and effectively prevented it from happening.
The Dems also oppose DOMA (defense of marriage act.)
So judging by their VOTES and their ACTIONS, it is fair to say they support gay marriage.
but whenever they are publicly asked to state their position on the issue, they claim to oppose it.
At least, that has been the case with the majority of big-name-politicians in the Democratic party.
A few Democrats have began to express support for gay marriage - (Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Diane Feinstein)......
but most of them, at least the ones currently in office, have this thing where they claim to oppose it,
but given the opportunity - they would vote to legalize it.
Democratic Governors John Lynch & Jon Baldacci were both on record for opposing gay marriage.
but when gay marriage legislation landed on their desk, they signed it!
Iowa Governor Chet Culver Governor claims he opposes gay marriage, but he said he also opposes congressional action to ban gay marriage.
President Barack Obama publicly stated he's against gay marriage, but he's also against proposition 8.
Can you believe so many Democrats would rather cater to public opinion than express their true opinion?
