I was watching a documentary stating that, The Red Army decided to make their first paratroopers use matrices instead of parachutes as they were to expensive to purchase. They supposedly made the Russian Paratroopers climb out of the fuselage onto the wing and lie down and slide off. Apparently they were dropped low with a matrace strapped to their back and they said the Red Army changed their policy, paying for parachutes after not 1 person survived the jump. Has anyone else heard of this, Cheers John.
