Im writing an essay for my history class and I don't have much knowledge on the subject so I need some help. The question is Did President Lincoln Free the Slaves at the Appropriate Time. Weigh the pros and cons on the matter in your explanation.

Yeah. He was for freedom, or some equality, but he was kind of building up to it. When the war started, he knew he would get support from the slaves, he freed them also knowing that there would be enough missing they (south) would have a more difficult time. Plus, the farming would have gone down, production, because they didnt have workers. He crippled the south, they lost income, and he managed to cut off some food supply.

Yes, if he freed them at the start of the war, then the border states would have seceded too...leaving Washinton, DC in confederate hands! In the beginning, Lincoln said he would allow slavery to continue if it meant he could save the Union. However, it was necessary to 'emancipate' the slaves in 1863 as a way to appeal to high morals of the British and French who were considering to help the South. The enlightened Europeans didn't want to support the barbarism of slavery so they stayed out of the war.

Write the truth. Lincoln did not free anyone.

Slavery was ended by Constitutional Amendment after the War Between the States. Lincolns proclamation was as legitimate as an American law outlawing wine in France would be

Lincoln signed the bogus Emancipation Proclamation only after the British army began massing on the Canadian border. The Proclamation was intended create English opposition to involvement in the war as the English had ended slavery much earlier. It worked so well that Americans are still buying the lie 146 years later.
