I'll ignore the cheap blind jokes.There's a good chance that Paterson had a personal preference from the beginning. According to sources, he was hoping to find an upstate politician to balance out the state's leadership (both he and Senator Schumer are from the NYC are), and Gillinbrand fits that requirement.

I would not say from the start but she does have experience compared to Caroline Kennedy. I believe that she has had a chance to ruin my little town of Hudson, New York now she can ruin the rest of New York. She can finish what Hillary Clinton started and Hillary can go and ruin the rest of the world as Secretary of State.
