Many shops charge 1 hour just to look at the car for diagnosis. Then if the serp belt goes around the engine mount, That could cost another hour, and then if the belt is expensive and a tensioner, you may not have gotten as ripped as it seems, but it does sound high.
 
heat/overheating...) charged? me $370 including about 85 $ for labor. From what I find online, I was RIPPED OFF. This auto place USUALLY is quite honest, though.
Problem was no heat (cool air from heater plus car overheated). I know this can be a do-it-yourself job, but I suck at auto repairs.
Would appreciate your opinion/feedback.

That's about right. Maybe a little be much, but it depends on where the belt tensioner is on it. Belt tensioners are a huge pain in the ass.
 
I'd say you got ripped off. Belt tensioner at most $85, new serp belt - about $30. It should take less than an hour to remove old belt and tensioner and install new ones. I'd complain.
