Did anyone see something strange in the sky last night?

Early this morning, about 4:42 Eastern Daylight Savings time this morning (1/3/09), I saw a sporadically lit object in approx. the southwest skye. It was traveling downward towards the Earth and looked a bit like a meteor. It was traveling VERY fast. it WAS NOT a plane. I could only see it for about a half a second, perhaps why it looked sporadically lit. I'm not sure exactly how far out in the skye it was, therefore I don't know if it could be viewed by everyone in the US.I spotted it near Poughkeepsie, New York. Please tell me wheather or not you have seen it.

there was a huge meteor shower last night. it was the biggest one that will occur for the next year.

you got to see something quit rare. savior it.:-)
 
From your description this sounds like a meteor. This isn't surprising since last night was one of the biggest meteor showers of the year, the Quadrantids.
