Looking for a book that will help me with playing by ear. As it I am now, I can only pick off melodies and i struggle with dictation when it comes to polyphony.
I was told that when music comes in chords, perfect pitch isn't really necessary. I was also told that by studying chords, i could pick off and predict which chord will sound better in the next measure. My knowledge of theory isn't terrible, in fact I took an AP Music Theory class in high school getting A's in both semesters. My piano playing is somewhat decent, and I have relative pitch that allows me to pick out single tones, but not multiple ones. My dictation, however is pretty crappy when it comes to multiple voices.
So what I'm looking for is some way of studying how chords are used in music, a way to progress my study in dictation, learning to play by ear.
What I'm not looking for: classes to take, low level theory, youtube tutorials.
