diarrhea

How long should I wait to contact a doctor? 76 hours ago I had fairly bad diarrhea (6 times in 30 minutes) I took some anti-diarrhea pills and everything was fine until 2am Tuesday morning when I had to go twice in 15 minutes (I guess the tablets wore off and that was why I was ok for 36 hours), this was followed by terrible nausea that didn't lead to vomiting.

Then yesterday everytime I went to eat something bland (brown bread, bananas, etc) I had the horrible nausea return although my stools weren't overly bad and not at all frequent but not normal. Today however, the nausea has all but gone but replaced by extremely loose-watery stools. I haven't taken any anti-diarrhea pills since Tuesday morning as I have a day off today and wanted to try and get it out of my system and the pills I have taken just stop things and dont get rid of what's causing it I guess?

Today I tried 2 dry biscuits which led to going 3 times in 2 hours and I have been drinking flat cola and rehydration sachets, not i'm just sipping water.

When should I start to think about contacting a doctor or does this simply sound like a bug/food poisioning and it should go soon? I must stress the diarrhea and nausea have been my only symptoms apart from a bit of a sore throat and I am usually a healthy 23 year old. My stomach does not hurt and I am extremely hungry now. It's just the fact that it's lasted longer than the 24/48 hours that is concerning me.

That really does sound like food poisoning or some virus.

Now that you are feeling hungry, it's probably passing so I'd try the anti-diarrhea pills again to slow the cramping in the gut and quiet it down and eat very lightly. Eat frequently and lightly. It may take a while for your insides to recover so expect some more problems but if it gets as bad as it was, then call your doc.

good luck

Jen

Thanks for the reply. I have been hungry through-out though and I had been eating and managed to keep it in more or less it's just today that anything I have eaten it's gone straight through me.
