I have a pair of Magnavox speakers hooked to my old Denon DRA-545R receiver. They are the kind of speakers that stand a few feet tall, have a pair of tweeters and a 12" mid/sub. Recently one of the speakers (tweeters and sub collectively) stopped producing sound. I switched around outputs, wires, etc. After Verifying it was the speaker, I pulled out the connector piece inside the speaker box that the speaker wires plug into which has some resistors etc. The individual wires going to the individual speakers are connected to this piece so is played around contacting the speaker wires to the contact points of the wires inside the box and was able to get the tweeters to produce sound right away. BUT, when I make contact with the subwoofer, the only result is that the other speaker (the working half of the set) gets slightly quieter.
I even tried pulling speaker wires directly through the air vent with my hand and contacting them with the subwoofer with no results. So, anyone have any ideas?
No, the speakers weren't abused, kept outside, cranked up too loud, etc. They both worked then one of them didn't next time I turned on the receiver. Inside the box appears to be very clean. The wires inside also appear to be in good shape and of good quality. Although, my attempt to connect the wires from the receiver directly to the speaker would have went around any such issue.
Thanks guys.
