Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame

I didn't realise there were a series of Dee detective stories. I might seek them out.

I adore Andy Lau - so that's the main reason why I want to see it :o
The reviews have been fairly good so far...I don't expect it to be a masterpiece but certainly looks enjoyable.

The Dee novels are by Robert van Gulik, based on Chinese stories but tailored for Western readers, with the supernatural bits removed or played down. The Chinese movie, which doesn't seem to be based on any particular book, appears from the trailer at least, to have gone the other way.
Judge Dee, a real Chinese magistrate, has appeared in a 70s Granada TV series, played by Michael Goodliffe and a US tv movie played by Kiegh Diegh (Wo Fat from Hawaii Five-0).
The books are excellent.
