I was wanting to find out if the 2.0 liter 4 banger in my 1998 mazda 626 was an "interference" or a "noninterference" engine. As i would hate to mess up my head or valves if the timing belt were to break; that is if its an interference engine. Its got almost 180,000 miles on it so it needs to be replaced regardless of what type it is. I just want to know if i need to get it done before it breaks.

It looks like it is not an interference engine, some people in Forums that you will find if you do a search say the aftermarket repair manuals wrongly label it an interference engine. Here is some useful info for the job.
