Detachable Kit for Ultra or Classic tourpak

If you ride mostly with a passenger, the detachable set-up probably makes less sense since the extra storage tends to get more use with a wife or girl friend on the back.

If most of your riding is solo, having the tour pak off the bike improves the bikes appearance (IMO) and handling. I seldom have the King tour pak on the bike; use a Corbin Classic solo; and, much prefer the look and handling of the bike without the big box on the back of the bike.

I use in-fairing antennas for AM/FM/WB and CB so I'm not dealing with antenna relocations, and the Ultra light bar, side marker lights, and tour pak spoiler/LED are wired to a single three-wire connector inside the tour pak, so disconnecting the elctrical to the tour pak is a simple disconnect.

I as well find the detachable to present it's own problems especially with the relocation of things to accomodate the hardware. Most of the riding I do is solo, and I thought about buying a streetglide and then adding the essentials but by the time I did it's a Ultra. I recently bought the 2011 FLHTK Rootbeer and couldn't be more happy. I am sticking with the original set up at least for now.

Did my '09 Ultra Classic 2 months ago and like it a lot. I bought the 4 point docking hardware but have not mounted it yet and don't plan to until I get ready to put the tour pak back on, when ever.
 
I have it on my ultra. Most of time it's off and i ride with the streetglide saddle. I use a sissybar for my wife or my son. I only put the TP when we are riding on holidays.
I never regret doing it. You have two bikes in one!
 
Do you have different antennas that you mount or remove with the tourpak off/on?

I would love to detach my tp sometimes but I also like being able to grab a 12 pack on the way home.
 
yes , I used the FBI kit on my 09 Ultra, I use an fairing mount antena for the Radio, and I don't use the CB. I have a street guide seat to used when the tour pak is off.
The only time the tourpak is on my bike is when the oldlady is on the bike.
