COMMENTS?

Saw the film today and it was great!
It had some good humor in it, and had some real endearing emotional moments, felt myself tearing up more than once. Really, i feel like the mark of a great film is when the film can really move you emotionally for the characters beyond just simple laughter... it makes the differences between an entertaining afternoon, and a really memorable and lovable film.

Granted there was one aspect of the film that was never really touched upon that i felt like it should of... the whole idea that he's a super villian who originally adopted the girls for no other reason than to use them in an evil plot (directly endangering them i might add)... While Edith and Agnes might be young and naive enough to ignore the circumstances of their adoption and focus on the geniune love he started to show them, I would expect Margo, who is the most skeptical and thus less easy to forgive to find this a big deal... Ya we do have some good sources of conflict between Grou and the girls already, in particular dealing with Grou giving them up, but i still feel it should have been addressed in some way or form, instead of ignored...

Another thing i felt was missing is more villainy... i mean the movie makes it sound like theirs a whole world of super villains, and yet Vector and Grou are the only two we ever see... Maybe more of a glimpse of other villains, or perhaps a super hero to though in for a few jokes

I was initially put off by the movie after seeing the trailers, but after hearing about how good it was from various people, I decided to go and see this movie.

All I have to say is that I'm glad I did. The best scenes are not in the trailers at all. Granted its no Toy Story 3 or How to Train Your Dragon, but the film was very good overall. A lot of the people in the theater were laughing and awwing throughout the film and applauding at the end.

Could this be a dark horse "very good animated film" since it was not made by Pixar or Dreamworks? I'm actually interested in Illumination Studios future works.

Saw it today, and here's my thoughts.

The plot of this film is fairly predictable. You can pretty much figure out the basic plot. There are, however, several clever jokes and moments that ease this. I agree with Monte, though...we really needed to see more of Gru being a villain first. His introductory scenes are great, I really wish we could have seen more. I'd pay to see a prequel of him just being a villain.

The ending is typical sappy "become a family" material...and you know what, I don't mind. I'm just a sucker for family stories, I guess.

Very nice...nothing special, but nice.

It was a good movie. Not too spectacular, but not bad.

Agnes (the youngest sister[?]) has got to be the most adorable little character I've ever seen! I was all like... Awww...:anime:

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. I saw it in 3D which was fairly well done. The movie had plenty of funny moments and was enjoyable. I especially liked Dr. Nefario.

I also could have used a little more supervillainy, but I guess part of the point was that Gru was never really that much of a supervillian.

Also, it was cool he realized his childhood dream of going to the moon.

This film was cute and mildly funny, but coming so soon after the transcendant Toy Story 3 does it no favors. There was hardly any LOL moments (aside from "It's so FUZZY!!!"
), but the film was fairly amusing throughout, the designs were neat, and the lationship between Gru and the girls was sweet. The film struck me in the same way as Monsters vs. Aliens did...it's certainly entertaining, but a future Blu-Ray (excuse me, "Gru-Ray" :p) purchase is fairly iffy.

I loved the movie. Every movie doesn't have to be on Pixar's level in order for me to enjoy it. But I don't want it to go into Shrek teritory when it comes to the humor. I think the movie was funnier than Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 was an awesome movie, but I had this meloncholy feeling about 10 minutes after Toy Story 3 started and it didn't let up at all throughout the whole thing. Even during the more humorous parts. The only bad things I could say about the movie is that I found Vector (who sounded NOTHING like Jason Segal! I forgot he did the voice) a little obnoxious and annoying towards the end. I think it had to do with him using his laugh a little to much. Agnus was the most adorable thing I've seen in a movie since Walle. The movie had a suprising amount of heart. I think that the girls and their situation Miss Hattie could have been reworked to give the movie some serious heart moments. But their situation with her was still enjoyable. I loved the music! I haven't liked anything Pharrell has done in years, but I loved the music he provided for the movie. Especially when they were at the amusement park. The rollercoaster scene was a lot of fun. I'm probably in the minority (when it comes to adults) when I say that I love 3D! And I loved the 3D in this movie. It made the movie a lot of fun! I'm glad I didn't decide to go with my first instinct and see it in 2D. And I loved the thing during the credits with the minions and the 3D. I love Pixar's subtle use to 3D for the depth it provides, but I also love when things pop out. As long as the 3D is well done and not added on towards the end of a film being made, just to cash in on it's popularity, I'm fine with it. I've been reading about Illumination since I've seen this movie, and I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

saw it on Saturday, and I thought it was very sweet movie. The kids are adorable, and the minions stole the show. My few gripes with the film is that the pacing sometimes gets really slow, and Gru being a supervillian...well...why doesn't he just rob a bank if he needs money? When watching the movie I kept thinking about the bad guys (notably Grampa) from El Tigre, and how you seem them doing regular villainous acts while still see them in their daily life.
Still it's a family film worth checking out.

I saw this movie today. It wasn't up to Pixar's standards but still very good. It was much better than what the commercials made it look like. The humor was very good, and didn't feel forced. Sure the plot is predictable but still good quality family fun.

I'm both surprised and very very pleased with Despicable Me! Of course, what shined brighter than anything in the film were the characters...and yes the minions stole the show completely. Even though I could not shake the whole minions = rayman raving rabbids thing, they were quite priceless in nearly all of their antics.

Here's hoping this movie gets more TZ love.

This was a seriously fun movie. It was no Toy Story 3, but it wasn't trying to be, either. It was simply a funny, sweet, entertaining movie that just about anyone can enjoy. The humor was just right, not feeling forced. The characters were fun, most especially the minions (I want one!). They stole every scene they were in and no complaints on that front. Hilarious. And Agnes... "It's so fuzzy I'm gonna die!" She might be the cutest thing just about ever.

The plot was fairly predictable (though I thought the kids might help Gru become a supervillain for a time, considering Perkins' obsession with "younger" villains... and the girls were definitely younger) and the ending a bit sappy... but that doesn't hurt the film at all. It's not trite or cheesy--no, for this film, it's just right. I loved the unicorn book ^_^

Oh, and "Bank of Evil: Formerly Lehman Brothers" :D

I would love to see more in this universe. Obviously there isn't much room to expand the film itself, but with the various supervillains, I assume there must be superheroes as well. How common are villains/heroes? This would be a fun place to explore in future projects. Especially with the minions.

The more minions, the better.

Just saw Despicable Me last night. It was predictable, but cute.

The 3 girls were beyond adorable. My favorite of the trio was Edith. She was weird and twisted...but in an appealing way. She also got what I consider the best line in the movie: "When we got adopted by a bald guy, I thought it would be like Annie."

The film was very sweet and cute, not what I was expecting. It was very good, better than I thought it'd be. Gru was actually pretty likable, and the girls weren't too bratty. Didn't care for the villain, though.

Saw it a few hours ago, and I thought that it was a good film. Pretty cute, had some funny moments, and I thought the CGI was pretty cool. Sure the ending felt a little predictable, but it was such a sweet ending that I didn't mind. I thought that the minions were funny, but I thought the real show stealer were the girls.

So I saw it on Monday but was too lazy at the time to write anything so...

I can say without doubt that I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of this film. Some of the humor was a bit childish at times but it certainly had it's moments and for the most part it hit high when it did.

Edith: "Hey that one looks like me!"
Gru: "What?! These characters are fictional and any resemblance to people living or dead is merely coincidental..."

But yes another solid animated film for the summer. 4/5.
