I read with interest how President Barack Obama has offered federal disaster assistance to Louisiana, and the governor said it wasn't enough.
Excuse me! They should not be getting any assistance. What happened to responsible budgeting? Hurricanes are not unexpected natural disasters — you know that every year or two you are going to be hit by one, two or more hurricanes in a Gulf Coast state. This expense can be calculated and budgeted.
The red herring about the aid being critical for national defense is nonsense. Private companies are running the ports, oil refineries and oil production facilities. Hurricane damage is the cost of doing business.
Over this entire week we have heard about building it yourself, except, I guess, when you don't.
Remember when you go to fill your car with gas that your tax money has gone to help out the poor, private oil companies.
